Le Grande Orange

Le Grande Orange in Phoenix is a cute little market with a pizzeria next door. In the market you can get sandwiches baked on Mj Bread, a local baker. Salads to go, wines, hard to find candies, cute cakes and cupcakes by Tammie Coe cakes, she even has a pb&j cupcake. Lucky for us Angelenos the LGO company will be bringing a Le Grande orange to old town Pasadena. They will also be opening a location in Santa Monica...the name has not been determined for that location.
The locations are in a
6,200-square-foot site at the Santa Fe Railway Depot in Pasadena and the other is 4,300 square feet on Main Street in Santa Monica. After these two locations open up they will open another location in a west hollywood boutique hotel. At the Pasadena spot, there will be a wine bar, pizzeria and the Le Grande Orange Cafe. Prices there will range from $6 to $11 for lunch plates and $18 to $20 for dinner plates.

To get an idea of whats in store for us check out their websites:

UrbanDaddy - Kumo

Forecast for your next important dinner: crisp and clear.

That's assuming you're among the first to visit Kumo (Japanese for "cloud"), the new power spot from ex-super-agent Michael Ovitz soft opening tonight on Melrose.

When you step inside, you'll hardly recognize the former Citrine space—the ceiling is higher, the décor is brighter (nearly everything but the blue rug is white, silver or glass), and just one central wall is retained. If you're early, grab a Kumokaze, made with chile-infused vodka, from the round white bar. If you're right on time, you'll be escorted straight to the sushi bar (okay), a table on the floor (good), a booth near the windows (better) or the private room behind a beaded silver curtain (best).

Once you've been seated (and have dutifully greeted any diners you haven't seen since last year's awards season), you'll negotiate a traditional Japanese menu with some French and Italian influences from chef Hiro Fujita, who hails from HamaSaku, the Westside strip-mall hideaway that's also Ovitz-backed. (You're also likely to spot Toshi Kihara, your favorite Asian pop star-turned-HamaSaku king—he's pitching in at Kumo too.)

If you become a regular, you'll likely notice changes like lunch hours (due to debut a week from Monday) and, eventually, tables on the Kings Road sidewalk.

For now, it's you, Ovitz and the big blue yonder.

FROMA

Melrose just got its own little gourmet store.
After a long day of shopping you can stop by and pick up a pound of squid ink trofie pasta, some Arbequina olives, chocolate-covered fleur de sel caramels in an edible chocolate box by Charles Chocolates, an espresso made from Danesi beans or a bresaola, goat cheese and arugula panini from the impressive panini menu. Currently they don't have wine but i stopped in yesterday and said they just got their liquor license and they will be getting wine within the next couple of weeks.

I left with some tartufo cheese, a delicious creamy french cheese...
and I want to go back for more!!!

The owners Sommelier Francine Diamond, who is from Quebec, and German-born Ca' del Sole executive chef Soerke Peters. Diamond's husband, Cut steakhouse general manager Matteo Ferdinandi, is the manager there.

Wishful

Held at Versailles in September, The Dinner of the Chefs is your chance to live like a Louis. In the banquet hall of Le Grand Trianon, Louis XIV's private retreat, eating through 15 courses while sipping world-class wine from Baccarat crystal and taking in Chopin from the local string section. And in the kitchen, you've got 16 of the best and brightest chefs from around the world, including Alain Passard of Paris landmark L'Arpège and BBC celeb Gary Rhodes. Between them, they've got 40 Michelin stars. Think of it as Top Chef Versailles.

The evening opens with a candlelit reception in Marie Antoinette's private courtyard, hosted by a former French First Lady. At the dinner itself, each chef will grace the hall to explain his signature dish, so you can chat with Charlie Trotter about his braising technique. And after you've put away your fifteenth plate, you'll watch fireworks over the palace—forgetting all about that $30,000 price tag.

After all, the king never looks at the check.
